A New Player in Brewery Water Management

We are excited to announce that ALGAESYS has made it to the final four candidates in the Beanstalk PropaGATE Challenge focused on treating brewery wastewater! We will be visiting some breweries, discussing the marketplace and the unique challenges that breweries face and presenting our solution to the panel of judges responsible for selecting the ultimate winner and progressing to a production trial.

In applying for this grant, ALGAESYS completed an initial pitch for the project in January. We were then selected to progress as one of fifteen candidates in April, to pitch our solution in May to the committee. After the round two pitch, we were chosen as one of the final four remaining candidates. The final pitches will take place in August this year, where there will be a three-day workshop including site visits.

ALGAESYS has previously been tested in a brewery context, with positive results

PropaGATE is a program tackling major issues in agriculture within Australia, such as drought and climate change, through these innovation challenges. These programs bring together experts from a wide range of areas to tackle these key issues in a challenge-led way. This task arose when PropaGATE consulted industry leaders and identified brewery wastewater as one of the most predominant challenges faced. Thus, the PropaGATE challenge was introduced to find and implement sustainable and cost-effective water treatment solutions to help the brewing industry improve their environmental outcomes and resilience.

This is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate ALGAESYS’s capabilities in a brewery context. We have previously applied this technology to a research and development project in a brewery in Portugal. The results of the research project were positive, and we believe ALGAESYS would be well suited to servicing Australian breweries.

We look forward to bringing you further updates on this exciting opportunity, and we’re grateful for the opportunity from Beanstalk to pitch for a local project. Stay tuned!
