Connected by Water: Building Momentum in Water Reuse

ALGAESYS attended the Australian Water Association’s Connected by Water conference in Perth at the end of February. It was an invaluable opportunity to connect with water-sector professionals, share what we are building, and have practical conversations about fit-for-purpose reuse, discharge compliance, and the needs of regional and remote communities.

Connected by Water was an opportunity to present ALGAESYS locally, in Western Australia, to a broad, water-industry audience. There is real value in being able to exhibit without the usual interstate logistics, including freighting stands and equipment and spending long stretches away from the team and our day-to-day operations.

Just as importantly, the event’s scope continues to expand. While it remains grounded in the water sector, we are seeing stronger crossover with mining and agriculture, two industries where we see meaningful opportunities for fit-for-purpose reuse and better wastewater outcomes.

One of the most valuable discussions we had was with a Water Corporation representative who expressed interest in visiting our Gingin plant. Their intent was clear: to better understand how our technology could support sites that are finding it difficult to consistently meet operational targets for effluent discharge. For us, these are the conversations that matter most. They move beyond general interest and into real-world performance challenges.

We also had strong engagement with Tessele Consulting, who were also exhibiting at the conference. While this was not a new connection, the quality of the conversations and the momentum coming out of the event have been significant. As a result, we have scheduled a site visit for them in June and see this as an important step in deepening our collaboration and identifying where our capability can add the most value to them.

Looking ahead, we expect water reuse to continue gaining traction across Australia, particularly in regional and remote communities. In many of these locations, every litre of potable water is incredibly valuable. Where reuse can responsibly offset potable demand, communities and businesses are better positioned to manage growth, resilience, and operational risk.

While the event featured a range of panels, not all topics were directly aligned to ALGAESYS’ focus areas. For example, a drought resilience session we attended leaned more towards alternative water supply solutions than wastewater treatment and reuse.

We see that as a useful reminder: water resilience is a broad system challenge. Our role within that system is most clearly defined where treatment performance, discharge compliance, and fit-for-purpose reuse are central.

Over the coming weeks, we will be following up on leads and turning conference momentum into practical progress:

  • Coordinating site visit planning and technical follow-ups.

  • Continuing conversations with partners and consultancies we met at the event.

  • Sharing updates on projects and performance outcomes where we can help utilities, businesses and local governments reach their discharge and reuse goals.

If you connected with us at AWA Connected by Water 2026 and would like to continue the conversation, we would love to hear from you.
