Bell Aquaculture
This was a proof-of-concept project conducted in Albany, Indiana, USA. ALGAESYS was used at Bell Aquaculture to treat the water in a Yellow Perch and a Tilapia growth tank.
As a result of the installation of ALGAESYS, fish survival and growth rates were both improved by 20% (Yellow Perch) and 15% (Tilapia) compared to a conventional MBBR treatment system. Additionally, the Fingerlings mortality was reduced by 70%.
In addition to the improvement of the water quality and outcomes for the fish, the costs of the treatment compared to the original system were reduced by over 50%.

Brewery - Portugal
ALGAESYS was introduced to a brewery in Portugal to reduce water consumption and increase water reclamation. Breweries are water-intensive, using roughly 3-6 litres of water to every litre of product produced.
Additionally, the brewing process results in incredibly high COD levels that typically lead to significant effluent discharge fees if released directly into the wastewater network. ALGAESYS was installed downstream of the existing anaerobic system, replacing the expensive and high carbon footprint aeration system. The end result of this POC, was that the ALGAESYS system was able to meet the discharge requirements defined by the brewery while consuming significantly less power than the existing treatment train, while improving on a number of effluent measures.
Thanks to this successful trial, the application of ALGAESYS is planned at the brewery’s new build.
